Insurance firms give premium discounts to married people, with the discounts depending on the parties’ driving records and credit standings. The rationale is that a person who is married is more cautious and is able to handle situations better when on the road. Once married, an individual tends to change their ways for the better. A person with a history of driving violations, even if married, will be assessed with higher premium payments than a single individual who has a better driving track record. In situations where only one of the spouses is considered a bad driver, the premium payments will be based on the record of the worse driver and will therefore be higher.
