I’ve always thought it’d be possible to track the sun with muscle wire. It shrinks when heated. If several muscle wires are attached like cables between the mirror and its target, when the hot point drifts away from the ideal point on the Stirling, the sunlight hits the wire, which contracts and pulls the mirror back to the correct orientation.

I’m not sure why we need a variety of solutions as you suggested. If we find one that works well universally, then we ought to go with it. Hydrogen, magnetic motors and stirling engines are in the lead, I think.

I was wanting to know what happens if you back this up with a fresnell lens on the cool side of the cylinder at the same time as the mirror? That is the design that I have in mind. I want to use a 60″ sat dish with the motors to track the sun accross the sky so you can have peak output all day long. Thanx day for all your work.
